HOW TO RECOVER EMAIL FROM SPAM OR JUNK FOLDERS

Sometimes important email messages we are eagerly awaiting fail to be delivered. There can be a lot of reasons for this, but one of the most common is that the message was filed as “junk” or “spam” and filed away before it ever saw your Inbox. This can happen for a lot of different reasons and it can vary depending on your Email service provider. Below are the general methods for a few of the most popular E-mail providers. Even if your service provider isn’t listed below, the process should be similar enough.

Google Gmail

  1. Login to your account at www.gmail.com.
  2. On the left-hand side of the screen, click on “Spam”
  3. Locate the lost message you wish to receive in your spam folder. It may be useful to use the search feature to find messages from a specific sender.
  4. Once you locate the message, open it by clicking on the subject line.
  5. Click the “Not Spam” button just above the message title. This will move the message to your Inbox and future messages from this sender should go directly to your inbox.

Microsoft Outlook / Hotmail

  1. Login to your account at www.outlook.com.
  2. On the left-hand side of the screen, click on “Spam”
  3. Locate the lost message you wish to receive in your spam folder. It may be useful to use the search feature to find messages from a specific sender.
  4. Once you locate the message, open it by clicking on the subject line.
  5. With the full message displayed, click the “Not Spam” button just above the message title. This will move the message to your Inbox and future messages from this sender should go directly to your inbox.

America Online / AOL

  1. Login to your account at mail.aol.com.
  2. On the left-hand side of the screen, click on “Spam”
  3. Locate the lost message you wish to receive in your spam folder.
  4. Once you locate the message, check the box to the left of the sender name.
With the message checked, find the “Not Spam” button in the menu above the emails. This will move the message to your Inbox and future messages from this sender should go directly to your inbox.

EMAIL SERVICE PROVIDER BLACKLISTS

In an attempt to save inboxes from unwanted emails, an Email Service Provider may sometimes blacklist certain email servers, effectively blocking any emails from reaching their customers. While this can be very effective against mass unwanted emails, it can also block legitimate emails from being received. We have found that occasionally Email Service Providers will block emails sent from our email service, Emma.

This may be difficult or impossible to change, but it may be worth contacting your Email Service Provider’s technical support team. If you have an email ending with your Internet Service Provider’s name (embarqmail.com, strato.net, etc.) then that should be the same as your customer technical support line. Ask if they are able to ‘whitelist’ (or unblock) emails sent from Emma. If they are willing to help, they may need the information below:

  • Sending domain: e2ma.net
  • *IP Range: 128.136.37.0/24 (128.136.37.1 to 128.136.37.255)
  • *IP Range: 66.179.147.160/27
  • *IP Range: 66.179.102.0/25
  • *IP Range: 66.179.68.0/26

If they can not add Emma to their whitelist, then it may be worth considering an alternative free email provider, such as those listed above. They are not known to have any issues receiving our communications.
